This Gauteng Golf Estate established a reputation as an exceptionally good place to live before its golf course finally broke through into the Golf Digest Top 100 for the first time in 2016. The Honeydew estate has been a huge success from a residential and lifestyle aspect.
The Douw van der Merwe design has been substantially improved, refined and worked upon since its opening in 2005, increasing its popularity, and entered the rankings at No 100 last year. The holes flow through what used to be a sand quarry, and there are some exciting elevation changes on what is clearly a risk-and-reward type layout, with many water hazards coming into play. Part of the layout on the back nine enters a canyon area.
The Eagle Canyon clubhouse has recently undergone an extensive renovation, taking into consideration the growing demand from residents and golfers alike for improved facilities. Increased shade coverage has allowed for more seating outside, and this has attracted more patrons. Eagle Canyon specializes in conference packages and functions, and additional conference and meeting rooms have been built. Two new boardrooms have been well received by residents who use these for business purposes.
Eagle Canyon has excellent practice facilities to complement a strong social golf development program and to encourage more home-owners to take up the game.
