THAT’S RIGHT, THE COFFEE YOU ENJOY IN THE RESTAURANT CAN NOW BE BREWED AT HOME!
There has been (or should that be ‘bean’) an amazingly growth in the coffee culture of Mossel Bay over the past two-odd years. In fact, this growth epitomises what is perhaps happening throughout South Africa in terms of coffee (and its culture) gaining prominence within small(er) towns and holiday destinations.
We’re very proud to be a part of this growth and to be riding the wave, so to speak…As you know, we purchased a small roaster to roast for use in the coffee shop about two years ago. We are now ready to take it to the next level, however.
For us it started about in-the-cup (not selling by the bag) and the roaster was the best play to innovate in that regard. But now, the logical next step is to start selling by the bag. We feel we are ready to really push our bean sales.
ALL BREAD USED IN THE RESTAURANT IS MADE IN-HOUSE
In the spirit of innovation and improvement – which is the basis of pretty much everything we do here at STARS. Well, not ‘bakery’ in the sense that you would imagine, but the artisan bread-making part of our business has grown so much.
Our three full-time professional artisan bakers now have their own space below the restaurant – in which to create sourdough magic.
This space means it gives us the freedom to experiment with different breads.
Currently the bakery is producing Ciabatta and range of sourdough breads, including wholewheat and 50% Rye for the restaurant and sale to the public. And, we are also baking small Ciabattas, especially for lunch-box sized sandwiches and we will soon have baguettes. The hamburger buns and pita breads? Also made in-house.
BEST RESTAURANT WINE PRICES YOU WILL FIND
We take pride in offering the lowest prices on wine (and other drinks) A meal out can so easily be made or ruined by the drinks and refreshments which accompany it.
We know this. And, as consumers and restaurant customers ourselves, we are well aware how often the dining-out experience is ruined by finding your favourite bottle of wine (let alone that cultivar you favour for special occasions) completely overpriced.
To combat this, we have always prided ourselves in the keeping our mark-ups on wine super low.
Our wine list is over 100 wines strong and cater for all tastes and budgets. From ‘entry-level’ budget wines to very expensive bottles, such as high end Champagnes. We have whites, reds and rosé and, if it is something that we don’t have on we can order it for you. *(We’ll even go out and buy three bottles just for you and keep it on stock).
And, the mark-ups range from 15 – 20% rather than the industry standard of 100% and over. Basically the price you see in the bottles store is what you will pay at STARS.
Our motivation behind this is two-fold. Firstly, (and perhaps most importantly) we want to offer a great dining experience at affordable rates. And, secondly – we don’t do anything with the wine. The bottle arrives at our door in a box and then we simply serve to you, the most we do is cool it down slightly and dust off the bottles. Therefor we don’t see any justifiable reason why we could charge a huge mark-up on a bottle of wine.
