“Vovo Telo is an artisan bakery, preparing breads and pastries in the traditions of Italy & France, such as: Ciabatta, Baguette, Rye, Brioche, Sourdough, Croissants, and many more. All our breads and pastries are baked fresh every day, using traditional artisanal techniques.
Every loaf is hand-shaped & prepared using the finest quality stone-ground
flour with no added preservatives. Vovo Telo is about the theatre of baking, with the bakery being centrally showcased, so that our customers can watch our artisan bakers at work whilst they hand-shape the slow fermented dough, load and unload them from the ovens - further allowing the aroma of the freshly baked breads and pastries to fill the air, reinforcing our love affair for unwavering bread quality.
In addition to our breads and pastries, home-made pasta and pissaladiere, (thin-based pizzas) complement the extensive breakfast and all-day menu. Our especially roasted beans provide the basis for a perfect coffee to go with that morning croissant.
The seed for the birth of the Vovo Telo brand was planted when the original founders travelled to Madagascar, where they were inspired by local bakers using influences of traditional baking techniques, who were selling their breads to tourists on the beach. The taste and experience was something to take back home, and so with that, the name Vovo Telo was born, taken from a moment and place in time where the inspiration took hold.
The original store was established in Richmond Hill, Port Elizabeth in 2006 where artisan baking masters came to share their skills and experience. Fresh aromas would drift down Raleigh Street through the morning air, and people would come to investigate, watching the bakers at work. Over time, customers began to realise what artisan baking was all about and eventually, they would even begin to bring their own fillings for the freshly baked bread and sit and eat them on the stoep.
From there, options expanded into a range of sandwiches, pastries, light breakfasts and lunches. Vovo Telo Bakery-Café Hartbeespoort (situated at 108 Scott Street, Schoemansville) opened June 2016, bears many similarities to the original store in Richmond Hill, with an extensive outside stoep area, shaded by grand old trees that hold great appeal for creating a relaxed environment, surrounded by natural sunlight, and views of the mountain and dam.
Bringing the art of baking to an already art-inspiring environment is befitting for the Hartbeespoort area.
Vovo Telo Bakery-Café Hartbeespoort is open Monday to Sunday from 7am to 6pm (including public holidays).
